2019 Boyne Thunder Poker Run At $100,000-Plus In Sponsor Registrations

Since opening registration just five days ago, the Boyne Thunder Poker Run has already taken in more than $100,000 in sponsor registrations. Bob Alger, the chairman of the organizing committee for the annual Northern Michigan event, said that the total reached the six-figure mark by last Wednesday, just two days after sponsor sign-ups opened.

The event, which is set for July 12-13 in 2019, started its tier sponsorship program eight or nine years ago, according to Alger. Sponsor registration for upcoming Boyne Thunder events has been opening by the end of year for the past five or six years.

“We have a Platinum sponsorship level of $10,000, a Gold level of $5,000 and a Silver level of $3,000—and all of those sponsorships come with at least one guaranteed dock space,” he said. “The slips are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis but the higher the sponsorship tier the earlier the choice of dock space the sponsor gets. We also increase the number of meal tickets with each sponsor level.

“For sponsors who don’t want to have a boat in the water but just want to display in what we call our poker-run village, we have sponsorships from $2,500 to $,1000,” he continued. “We started the tier sponsorship program when we realized we were gaining more of a national footprint.”

The Boyne Thunder Poker Run will celebrate its 16th anniversary in 2019. This year, the event raised $207,000 for Camp Quality and Challenge Mountain—its two primary charities—bringing the total amount raised in its 16-year history to more than $1 million.
