30th Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Raises Record-Setting $300,000!

While the organizers behind the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri had a good idea they’d easily surpass the $200,000 mark—the record-setting donation made to various local charities following the 29th annual event—this year, they sure didn’t expect to come in 50 percent higher in 2018 with a staggering total of $300,000. Neither did the 120-plus people in attendance for the check presentation ceremony on Sunday afternoon in Sunrise Beach, Mo., at The Stables at Cannon Smoked Saloon.

Yes, the monumental jump to $300,000 in donations to 32 local charities and eight fire departments that support the lake coincided with the event’s 30th anniversary, but it really had to do with the event’s generous group of sponsors, a new determined dedicated staff member, Christy Janssen, and a significant contribution directly from the Saturday evening live auction held in conjunction with Super Cat Fest at Camden On The Lake Resort.

“It’s a big number—$300,000 is a lot of money,” Ron Duggan, owner of Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill, the Shootout’s host location, said on Monday. “We had a record of 877 volunteers who put in a total of 10,281 hours to earn this record-breaking amount. In the 11 years since the Shootout moved to Captain Ron’s, we have donated a total of $1,443,000 to different groups around the lake.

“This year, a lot of the organizations walked away with a nice check,” he continued. “The Make A Wish Foundation received almost $40,000 and the Coffman Bend Fire District, a non-tax-funded department here at the lake, received around $27,000. Most of the Shootout’s events raised more money all around this year. We also changed up a few events and added some new ones, including a couple of socials leading up to the Shootout. At one of the socials we raised $15,000 raffling off a golf cart that sponsors purchased.”

With more than $160,000 raised in one evening, Duggan gave a lot of credit to the folks who donated substantial sums of money during the auction at Super Cat Fest. He also thanked returning title sponsor Performance Boat Center for its contributions, and added that the lake’s prominent dealership and service center has agreed to sponsor the event again in 2019.

He hinted at more changes to come in 2019—but that the news will have to wait until just that, 2019.
