Image of the Week, Part III: High Rollers In Clearwater
Offshore racing is a frightfully expensive sport, especially at the highest level such as that occupied by the Qatar team. It doesn’t just mean having a raceboat—and with the piston-powered Spirit of Qatar and turbine-powered Al Adaa’am 96 catamarans Qatar has two of the finest—it means having a tractor/trailer, a crew to transport, feed and house, a set of backup engines and a whole lot of spare parts. In short, it means having really deep pockets.

But when it all comes together at a race site, it sure is pretty—as this Jay Nichols picture of the Qatar camp at this weekend’s Super Boat International Championships in Clearwater, Fla., clearly shows. Nichols captured this image during last night’s opening festivities.
“Man, that stuff is off the chain,” said Nichols in reference to the Qatar team’s hardware.
We couldn’t agree more.
