On Scene At The Shootout: Mungle Shooting For 190-Mph

The Lake of the Ozarks Shootout poker run is tough to beat. Between classic V-bottoms, high-performance catamarans and triple- or quad-engine center consoles, the turnout of boats is quite a sight.

The 360 MC Flyer from Nor-Tech got a lot of attention during the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout poker run on Friday.

After running 177 mph during last year’s Shootout in his 32-foot Gone Again Skater, Kenny Mungle is hoping to hit 190 this year.

During the Sunday’s competition in the 2013 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, Mungle laid down a class-winning 177-mph run. After lunch at Captain Ron’s today, he said he expects even better results during this weekend’s event.

“We did a couple of test runs this morning,” said Mungle, who is from Seabrook, Texas, and operates the 32-footer solo. “We did one run one way at 189 mph, and another run the other way at 190 mph. The boat ran extremely flat and stable. I honestly didn’t know I was going down that fast. I glanced down at the GPS and saw 190, and I was like ‘Darn!’

“I’m hoping for 190-plus during the Shootout, but I’ll be satisfied if I see another 190-mph,” he added. “That’s a huge number for a 32-foot boat.”
