An Afternoon With Team Gasse

Earlier this week, throttleman John Tomlinson and driver/owner Tor Staubo put Gasse, a 48-foot Marine Technology, Inc., catamaran with twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines through a practice session in Miami in preparation for next week’s Super Boat International Key West Offshore World Championships. An engaging, online “slide-show” look at the session can be seen by clicking here.

On hand for the practice session on the short course set up on what Tomlinson calls “South Bay” was MTI’s prototype 42-foot center console, which was used as a support boat. The team’s back-up boat known as “Gasse 2,” another 48-footer from MTI, also was used in the session.

“It went really well, the boat ran great and we’re ready for Key West,” said Tomlinson. “When I raced with Hugh Fuller (in Drambuie on Ice) we used to practice down there all the time.

“The boat and everything left TNT for Key West this morning,” Tomlinson added. “I head down on Monday. The entire team is looking forward to it.”
