Arizona Boaters’ New 450R-Powered Wright Performance 360 Lands At Home In Havasu

Eager to have their new Wright Performance Powerboats 360 catamaran out West on their home lake—the Colorado River-fed Lake Havasu that borders Arizona and California—after getting to see and run the boat at the Miami International Boat Show and the Florida Powerboat Club’s Miami Boat Show Poker Run that followed in mid-February, longtime performance boaters Jeff and April Lamb of Phoenix were able to spend some time last weekend running around Lake Havasu. The well-known owners of several different DCB catamarans, the Lambs even arranged a photo shoot with Lake Havasu City, Ariz.-based photographer Tom Leigh, who also took a couple of pictures of the boat, which is powered by a pair of Mercury Racing 450R engines, on display at the boat show in Miami.

“The boat is absolutely incredible; it was delivered Friday and we spent most of the weekend running it,” Jeff Lamb said. “We got to run the boat in Miami in the poker run and then the guys at Performance Boat Center took it back to Lake of the Ozarks to put some finishing touches on it. After doing the poker run, we decided to add the optional electric footrests to the boat. They don’t give you many options besides selecting the paint and interior and whether you want the trailer guard—the boat already comes standard with everything you need and then some.

“We’re very happy with how everything came out with the boat,” he added. “Not only does it look great, it performs amazingly well. We really like how it handles and turns. It’s an all-around awesome boat and the 450Rs are downright impressive. It’s different because of how quiet the engines are, but at least we can switch the sound from quiet mode to the rumble effect Mercury added to give guys like me a little more engine noise.”

Along with the proven performance of the boat designed and built by the talented team at Doug Wright Designs, Lamb said he really appreciated the freeboard that the cockpit of the 360 provides compared to other boats he considered and test drove.

“We looked at several boats before going with the Wright Performance 360,” said Lamb, who has always used Adrian Barrett and the team at Barrett Custom Marine in Lake Havasu City to maintain his boats. “It’s the perfect size for Lake Havasu and Lake Powell, which we also spend a lot of time on, yet it’ll be plenty of boat and easy to manage no matter what event or waterway we take it to around the country.

“We had so much fun doing the photo shoot with Tommy and can’t wait to see all of his pictures,” he continued. “That was the first time I ever drove one of my boats for a helicopter session like that. What a cool experience. April loves the 360. She drove it over the weekend and ran it up to 110 mph and was completely comfortable in it. She’s driven all of our boats—she’s very experienced—but this is our first outboard cat so it’s a little different.”

Lamb made sure to point out how easy it was working with the team at Performance Boat Center.

“We dealt mostly with Rusty (Williams) because he sold us the boat, but we also got to know Myrick Coil and Brett Manire toward the end of the build, and I have to say everyone at that company treated us so well,” Lamb said. “The whole build process was great. The design team was great to work with and they did a great job communication with us the entire time.”
