Battleship Run Entering 27th Year On Seneca Lake

One of the longest-standing powerboat events in the Northeast, the 27th annual Rochester Offshore Powerboat Association Battleship Run on upstate New York’s idyllic Seneca Lake is set this year for July 14-16. Registration for the run is still open and sponsorship opportunities “are still available, though sponsor docks in front of the (host) Show Boat Hotel are almost gone,” according to a representative from the club.

According to information on the ROPA website, the folks at Rochester Offshore, then an American Power Boat Association division, decided to transform the organization into a performance boating club—rather than remain a local APBA race producer—in 1990. That move gave birth to the first Battleship Run on Lake Seneca, and it has been the club’s signature event ever since.

As in years past, the 70-mile Battleship Run will feature three speed-defined—50, 70- and 100-mph—separate running groups. Safety is at the top of the club’s priority list. Racing in any form is forbidden, as is passing the pace boats. Personal floation devices are mandatory for all occupants of the boats when the vessels are on plane. Alcohol consumption on the water during the run is forbidden.

The Battleship Run attracts a solid contigent of high-performance powerboats and offers family fun in a low-key atmosphere.

The registration fee is $190 for the boat and driver/owner, who must be a ROPA club member. Passengers are $75 per person. Saturday night dinner tickets are $25 per person. (There is no dinner charge for children up to 12 years old.)
