Big Boat Bash To Reach Five-Year Mark

With all the go-fast boating events that attract a national audience, it’s easy for more-regional happenings to get lost in the shuffle. But pulling off an organized event, especially one that serves a worthy cause, of any size for five years is a solid achievement. And it’s a milestone that organizer Brian Buckminster of the Beaver Lake Performance and Powerboat Association and his team of volunteers in Rogers, Ark., will reach next weekend with the fifth annual Big Boat Bash.

The event benefits Sheep Dog Assistance Impact—”a national non-profit organization that exists to engage, assist and empower” veterans and first-responders according to its website. With registration still open, Buckminster said he is expecting approximately 50 boats to participate and his hoping to match last year’s donation of $15,000 to the organization.

“I think we are on pace to do what we did last year,” said Buckminster. “And I’ll be happy with that.”

Twin Peaks Rogers, a local sports bars, will once again serve as the host venue for Friday’s night’s street party and Saturday’s post-run dinner and celebration. For the Saturday night happening, the organizers have added a live band and a beer sponsor, according to Buckminster.

“It’s a really cool event with pretty water and good people—all for the benefit of the Sheep Dog charity,” said Kevin Johns of Instant Memories Photography, who will be shooting the event from a helicopter for the second year in a row.
