Boyne Thunder Cuts Pre-Registration For 2018

Celebrating its 15th anniversary this summer and likely to cross the $1 million mark of total funds raised for its charities, the Boyne Thunder Poker Run July 13-14 in Northern Michigan will not offer pre-registration for returning participants as the event has for the past four years. According to Boyne Thunder committee chairman Bob Alger, pre-registration was initiated to give past participants a better chance at securing docks space before the Boyne City Marina filled.

Open registration for the event will begin on March 1 at 9 a.m.

“The two factors that impacted the decision to hold just one open registration was the high number of sponsorships being sold, choosing their dock upon payment, the last few years and the huge number of pre-registration codes—more than 300 sent last year—with few registration spots remaining. The committee felt that we were ‘sending’ a false sense of priority by sending pre-registration codes.

“The phone calls and emails on the days following registration from those who could not get in or who did not get a dock space increased in recent years,” he added. “That indicated we needed to do something.”
