Cigarette Racing Team in Opa Lock, Fla., has two new projects underway, according to Skip Braver, the owner and chief executive officer of the company. The first will debut at the 2011 Fort Lauderdale International in October. The second will be unveiled at the 2012 Miami International Boat Show in February. Beyond that, Braver would not elaborate.

“I could tell you but I’d have to kill you,” he said then laughed. “I can tell you we’re going to have some really interesting stuff at those shows. I can also tell you that we’ve hired quite a few people in the last few months. We’ve been busy. The 50’ Marauder and the 39’ Top Fish have been doing very well.”

Braver added that during the company’s annual one-week shutdown in August 2011, a 20-person team working in shifts nearly around the clock performed extensive renovation and reorganization at the plant.

“We pulled everything, right down to every cabinet and chair, out of the facility,” said Braver. “We fixed every little crack. We repainted. We installed new tarpaper on the lamination area floor. The place looked brand-new before we started—we always had, by far, the best facility, in high-performance boat building. Now the plant looks as good as our boats do.”
