Broadco Team Eyeing Key West Return in Re-Engineered MTI

After rolling the team’s 40-foot MTI catamaran at the Super Boat International season opener in Cocoa Beach, Fla., in May (read the story), it appears that owner/driver Chuck Broaddus and throttleman Grant Bruggemann may be back in the re-engineered catamaran in time to defend its Superboat class title at the SBI Key West Offshore World Championships in November.

According to Broaddus, BROADCO and the Cat 5 Offshore Racing Team along with the crew at MTI in Wentzville, Mo., are hard at work on an extreme project commissioned by the Cat 5 team with support from several sponsors, which include MTI, GearHeads Haircuts, Pods, Ilmor Marine, YP, Offshore Outdrives and Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

“We are anticipating a completion date for the boat of mid-October, which will allow us plenty of time to test and prepare to defend our world championship title in Key West,” said Broaddus, who emerged from his first raceboat rollover without serious injury. “The boat is going to be amazing. It has the latest and greatest of all the 2015 MTI carbon-fiber engineering and next-generation cockpit and canopy design and construction. Safety is our first priority.

“We can’t wait to unleash this beast in Key West,” he continued. “We’re going to have a new boat built off the original dialed-in bottom. There’s no need to mess with something that works!”

Although the team won’t be able to achieve one of its two major goals for the 2015 season—winning the SBI Superboat National Championship—Broaddus is extremely excited about getting the Ilmor-engine-powered catamaran back in time to chase the second goal: defend the team’s 2014 world championship.
