Broken Arrow Apache Update: Interior Installation In Progress

Three significant tasks remain in the restoration of Broken Arrow, a vintage 47-foot Apache V-bottom, before its planned debut at the 2015 Miami International Boat Show in February. First, the interior needs to be finished. Second, the boat’s triple 1,200-plus-hp turbocharged Chief Performance engines need to be reinstalled by rigging wizard John Pompi of Marine Performance in Port Orange, Fla., the same outfit that handled the gutting and rerigging the boat’s engine compartment. Third—and here’s the best part for project manager Marc Jacob, who recently joined BoatsDirectUSA in Key Largo, Fla., as the new- and pre-owned boat company’s sales manager—the 47-footer needs to hit the water.

“We have to run the boat and put a little time on it after the engines go back in,” said Jacob. “We have to show it off a little bit, after all the effort everyone involved put into it.”

At present, Broken Arrow is at Old School Custom Upholstery in Cape Coral, Fla., getting its new interior courtesy of proprietor Scott Schloemer. Jacob said he and Schloemer began collaborating on the project after the marine upholstery specialist paid a visit to the boat earlier this year. The interior plan includes expanding the cockpit 12 inches on each side as well as building steps into the cabin door for foredeck access.

“After the interior is done, we’ll take it back to John (Pompi) and the engines will go back in,” said Jacob. “Everything is done in the engine compartment—the trim pumps and other components are in and it has a new electrical system—and it’s immaculate. The transom assemblies are installed, the new swim platform is on. Everything is ready to go.”

Jacob said that after Broken Arrow’s Miami Boat Show-planned debut the boat will be shipped to Kuwait to its new owner. Once the boat arrives, Jacob will fly to Kuwait to complete delivery in person.

“I don’t know how I’m going to part with it, to be honest,” he said, then laughed. “Everything is perfect on the boat—I can’t stop.”
