Buffalo Poker Run Up To 114 Boats

Organizers of the upcoming Buffalo Poker Run August 8-9 recently opened more slots that they quickly filled from their waiting list. With 114 boats currently regiisered—that’s 14 above the event’s initial 100-boat cap—the boats will run in five different five different speed classes, according Tony Scioli of the Western New York Offshore Powerboat Association.

“Our major sponsor, Double R Performance, just told me that they are bringing a very cool boat as their ‘sponsor boat,'” said Scioli. “They are bringing a Nor-Tech 5000 Roadster catamaran with quad Mercury Racing 1200 SCi engines and computers from Mercury Racing 1075 SCi engines so it can run on pump gas. With that setup, the boat reportedly ran 171 in February.”

According to Scioli, the catamaran’s owner Eddie Poirier will run exotic four-engine 50-footer with Raymond Roberts, the owner of Double R Performance in Ontario, Canada, in the event.

“The boat is Eddie’s second 50-foot Nor-tech—they aren’t sure how many Nor-tech’s he’s owned, but they think it is around 10,” said Scioli. “It is his fourth 50-foot cat.”

“We’re really excited,” he added. “And Double R has already committed to being our major sponsor for next year.”
