Can P1’s Team to Beat Do it Again?

By edging out the husband-and-wife team of Craig and Cynthia Belfatto in the Livorsi boat by just one point to win their second consecutive P1 SuperStock USA Championship last November, teammates Andy Biddle and Tracy Blumenstein capped a historic season in which the New Jersey duo also won the P1 SuperStock UK Championship overseas.

Being the competitors that they are, Biddle and Blumenstein haven’t sat back and basked in the glory of being the first team to win titles on each side of the Atlantic in the same year. Rather they are working on how they can stay out in front this season as they are planning to race in both the United Kingdom and the United States again. Biddle knows the team has a huge target on its back.

“I felt like we had a big target on our back last year—it wasn’t easy winning two years in a row in the States,” said Biddle, who is looking forward to the challenge of racing in both series again. “We’ve done some good testing this winter and have been doing some data logging to get a better idea of what we’re doing right or wrong out there.”

Although a U.S. schedule has yet to be released, Biddle said the P1 circuit is opening in mid-May in Stuart, Fla., in conjunction with the Sailfish Regatta. The team will head to the UK two weeks late for the opener in Bournemouth, England, on May 31 and then return to Florida for a race in Jacksonville the following weekend.

In the team’s immediate future is a racing demonstration event in London at the end of March, although Biddle said he and Blumenstein, who own two Professional Boat dealerships together, are still not sure if they will be participating in the exhibition.

“Our plan is to hopefully defend both of our titles this year,” said Biddle, who is dieting along with his teammate in an effort to improve the acceleration of the team’s boats. “We’re working on some sponsorship deals, but nothing that has been made official yet. Really we just can’t wait to get back out there. In my opinion, racing doesn’t get any better than this.”
