Canadian Customer Eager To Run New Mercury Racing 450R-Powered MTI 390X

As if the whole shelter in place restrictions weren’t difficult enough, Canadian performance boater Kevin Primmer, who many people know from poker runs and such in and around the Great Lakes or up and down the coasts of Florida (and places in between), has to stare at the new MTI 390X catamaran he recently took delivery of sitting on its trailer in his garage next to his Statement Marine V-bottom and other motor vehicles. The one consolation he has is that it’s not yet boating season north of Toronto so he likely wouldn’t be using the beautiful cat at this time anyway.

However, he likely would have made a trip to Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri to pick up the 39-footer, which is powered by a pair of Mercury Racing 450R engines, and test drive it rather than pick it up in Sarnia on the U.S.-Canada border and take it back to his garage. Either way, Primmer, who lives in the town of Huntsville in Ontario, is very happy with the boat and all of the custom touches MTI implemented to it.

“I’m more than ecstatic about the boat, which, as far as I can see, is pretty flawless,” said Primmer, who earlier this month sold the twin Mercury Racing 400R-powered MTI 340X—MTI’s 2018 demo model—that he ran for about a year before ordering the newest model in MTI’s lineup. “I loved the 340X but I have a feeling my 390X is going to be totally different thanks to the 450s. Plus this boat has everything I could get in it.

“When I ordered it I was going to build something reasonable, but I far surpassed that early on and pretty much took every option MTI offered,” Primmer continued with a laugh. “The boat has electric seats, an upgraded stereo system, a pop-up speaker pod with four speakers in the rear hatch and a full Lumishore LED system with color-changing underwater, speaker and cockpit lighting. We also added SeaDek to help with wear and tear on top of the rear seats because people sit up there a lot when we’re idling or hanging out at the docks. I can’t say enough about the boat’s paintjob—it is incredible. I’ve never seen an MTI like it. I can’t wait for people to get to see it in person.”

An active member of the nonprofit Performance Boat Club Events Inc., Primmer, who owns the well-known Invitation Only 42-foot Statement and owned the original Statement 42 Ultimate prior to that, said he’s not a real flashy guy, which is why he chose the tan, cream and black interior colors that complement the cat’s maroon, gray, black and white graphics.

Obviously Primmer is eager to get back on the water—and for good reason. He’s got an amazing new boat with the latest supercharged V-8 engines from Mercury Racing providing the punch, and an impressive attitude and generous spirit to go with it.
