Center Consoles Boost Statement Marine Production
It has only been a handful of years since Statement Marine burst onto the scene with its 42 Ultimate V-bottom and 50 Passion catamaran. A 42-footer with Mercury Racing HP1075SCi engines made the first big splash with its suspension cockpit and luxurious interior. Then came the over-the-top turbine-powered catamaran that was on display at the 2010 Miami International Boat Show featuring a hot tub between the turbines.
And even with a struggling economy staring them in the face, Statement owners Nick Buis and Todd Werner kept moving forward. In 2011, they launched the 37 SUV and 34 SUV, adding a line of crossover-style center consoles.
This year, they followed those up with the 368 SUV Crossover, a luxurious, feature-filled center console designed to handle every on-water activity imaginable. The first 37-footer with triple Mercury Verado 300 outboards featured a cuddy cabin, a head compartment and a helm station loaded with high-end electronics and instrumentation.
According to Buis, the center console efforts are paying off.
“We’ve sold a handful of 34-footers—with twin engines they are perfect for someone looking for a boat the whole family can enjoy while keeping fuel costs down,” Buis said. “We have some orders for the 37 SUV and 368 SUV Crossover, too. Right now I think we are 10 or 11 boats backed up. Now comes the challenge of producing them all—that’s a new thing for our company. For years we’ve been inventing and doing R&D work. Now we’re trying to turn this into a production shop. Lately we’ve been running six or seven days with double shifts.
One of Statement’s new twin-engine 34 SUVs participated in the Florida Powerboat Club’s Tampa Bay Poker Run.“Still, our focus will be to continue making our boats better,” he added. “That may not be the smartest business decision, but this is our passion. We want to make cool stuff, not ordinary stuff.”
The crew will have Invitation Only, its latest 42 Ultimate V-bottom that was on display at the 2012 Miami show, running in the Tickfaw 200 Poker Run on May 4-5. The V-bottom features Mercury Racing 1100 engines and radical paint job.
In other exciting news, the second 50-footer from the company is expected to be finished in June. The one-of-a-kind catamaran will be powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350s. Look for follow-up articles on www.speedonthewater.net.
