Cigarette Claims ‘World’s Fastest Center Console’ Title at Shootout

Late yesterday afternoon at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri, Cigarette Racing Team’s Cigarette-AMG 41 SD GT3 performance center console reached 104 mph. The 19,000-pound 41-footer, which is powered by twin Mercury Racing 1100 engines and rides on the same hull as the Opa-locka, Fla., company’s 41 GTR outboard engine-powered center console, was driven by Myrick Coil of Performance Boat Center. The run was one of the last of the day in the liquid-mile top-speed contest, which resumes again today.

Coil, who hopped on a plane bound for today’s Super Boat International Race in Mentor, Ohio, (look for coverage later today on speedonthewater.com) immediately after the run with Performance Boat Center co-owner Mark Waddington, could not be reached for comment.

“Skip Braver (the owner and chief executive officer of Cigarette Racing Team) sent the boat to us and we set it up,” said Brett Manire, who co-owns the full service, multi-brand powerboat dealership in Osage Beach, Mo. “We swapped out the drives on the boat for a pair of No. 6 drives we had, changed their rotation and played with Mercury Racing propellers. But we didn’t take off the windshield or anything like that. The boat still weighs 19,000 pounds.

“Myrick said he felt completely comfortable during the run,” he added. “It was like a living room going down the racecourse. This is such a big deal for us. We’re very proud to be a loyal Cigarette dealer.”

Braver was equally delighted with the result.

“Our whole point in doing this was to make a pleasure boat you can take out 15 people in for everyday use and not have it fall apart, but also have it be the world’s fastest center console,” he said. “We didn’t build it like a potato chip. We didn’t take the top off and run it with two gallons of fuel. We built a 19,000-pound boat and it ran 104 mph. And it can go faster.

“Earlier in the week the people at Performance Boat Center were taking full loads of people on it,” he continued. “They used it all week and most of the weekend. It’s a Cigarette. You buy and you use it. We built it to show that a fast can also be pleasurable.”
