Last weekend in Port Huron, Mich., and Sarnio, Ontario, Canada, Team AMSOIL with throttleman Bob Teague and driver Paul Whittier earned its first victory—ahead of Chuck Broaddus and Grant Bruggemann in Broadco—of the 2014 Offshore Powerboat Association season. As it happened, it was just AMSOIL’s second race of the year. Teague teamed up with his son/driver, John, to finish second—behind Broadco—at OPA’s St. Clair River event, also in Michigan, a couple of weeks earlier.

At the Super Boat International’s fourth race of the season in Michigan City, Ind., Broadco handed the Stihl team its first loss of the year. Team AMSOIL, which so far has stuck to OPA events, did not compete.

Called Superboat in SBI and Super Cat in OPA—by any name, this twin-engine catamaran class is the most exciting and competitive it has been since the early 2000s under APBA Offshore LLC.
