Color-Matched Statement Center Console and Phoenix Cat in Progress

Seeking the best of both worlds, Canadians Brian and Janet Lundy have ordered a 35-foot Statement Marine center console and a 32-foot Phoenix catamaran, and both are scheduled to be ready for the upcoming performance-boating season. Each boat will be powered by Mercury Verado outboard engines—twin 350s for the Statement and, in what rapidly is become a sport catamaran power trend, a pair of 400Rs for the Phoenix.

“Brian and Janet have previously owned a 36-foot Spectre cat, a 43-foot Nor-Tech cat and a Nor-Tech 340 Flyer V-bottom,” said Randy Sweers of FB Marine Group, the full-service Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based dealership handling the sale of the boats to the couple. “As part of this deal, they traded in their 40-foot Nor-Tech Roadster with twin Mercury Racing 1100s and opted to have a pair of boats instead of just one.”

Doug Harrell of Oversprayer Custom Painting and Designs is handling the color-matched paintwork for both boats. (Harrell’s primary clients include Mystic Powerboats.) While Statement has produced a number of 35-foot center consoles, the Lundy’s 32-footer will be the second Phoenix—hull No. 1 is slated to be a raceboat—produced by Chris Schoenbohm of Smart Marine in Orlando, Fla. The open-cockpit pleasure catamaran will feature a five-person custom interior and a full wraparound windshield.

“The Lundys originally looked at doing a sport catamaran from another builder, but they really liked Chris’ overall design and his enthusiasm for the project,” Sweers said. “So we thought it would be great to give Chris a shot at building something that we can really showcase as an elite new product to the market.

“A lot of clients who have had the bigger cats are becoming intrigued with the outboard cats now due to the reliability and performance of the new 400R models from Mercury Racing,” he added.

Sweers said that the 35-footer is one of six center consoles FB Marine Group has ordered and are currently under construction at Statement.

“Craig Barrie of Statement and I have been friends for years, and he’s great to work with,” he said. “A lot of time it seems like dealers are ‘battling’ the factories, especially when the factories sell direct. We work really well together.”
