Countdown to Clearwater: Instigator Secures New Sponsor For SBI Nationals

For next weekend’s Super Boat International National Championships (Sept. 26-28) in Clearwater, Fla., Instigator, a 42-foot Fountain that competes in the Superboat Extreme V-bottom class, has been dressed in the colors and graphics of the original “Hooters” restaurant, which is located in Clearwater. The boat will be on display in front of the restaurant—its newest sponsor—at 2800 Gulf to Bay Blvd. on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Fans also can catch the world championship-winning V-bottom during Friday night’s boat parade, as well as in the dry pits in Coachmen Park.

Owned by Ryan Beckley of DoublEdge Motorsports, which fields Stock-class teams and will be competing in Clearwater, Kinetic Animation applied the boat’s new vinyl graphics.

The Superboat Extreme-class Instigator team has a new sponsor for the upcoming National Championshps in Clearwater.

“I’m excited to work with the great people at Hooters,” said Peter Meyer, a veteran offshore racer, multi-time world champion and owner of the Instigator team, in a press release from the team. “They have a philosophy of maintaining a fun, professional work atmosphere—much the same as we do on my team. We race for the love of the sport with professionalism and a family-friendly environment. And we serve up lots of food and fun along the way.”

The 42-footer powered by twin 800-hp engines has run uncontested in its class in all but one race this season—fellow Extreme-class Fountain V-bottom Twisted Metal did compete in the Sarasota, Fla., SBI event (Instigator took first place)—and as yet has no competition registered for the Clearwater race. Regardless, the team will field a formidable effort with Giancarlo Cangiano handling the throttles and Johnny Stanch behind the wheel.

Although Meyer won’t man Instigator’s cockpit in Clearwater, he will once again take on duties as a broadcaster for the SBI media team. As he has in past broadcasts, the multi-time world champion brings a depth of experience to his broadcasting role.
