Countdown To Miami: Cigarette To Kick Off 50th Birthday Celebration

Since Skip Braver purchased Cigarette Racing Team in 2002, he’s been dedicated to major reveals at the Miami International Boat Show. And as challenging as it was for the Opa-Locka, Fla., performance center console and sportboat builder and other boat builders and vendors, the event’s permanent move from the Miami Convention Center to Virginia Key in 2015 gave Cigarette the opporunity to take exhibiting to another level with its spectacular floating dock displays. In addition to featuring new and current Cigarette models, those exhibits have showcased company’s latest collaborations with Mercedes-AMG in unmatched style.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Cigarette Racing Team has plenty of surprises in store for Miami and beyond

So it’s a safe bet—given that Cigarette is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year—that the company will go big in Miami next month with a collaborative Cigarette-AMG stunner, as well as unveiling a new model or two of its own. It’s also a safe bet that Braver won’t tip much of his hand before the show opens on Feb. 14.

“We are celebrating the past 50 years and the legacy of the Cigarette difference,” he said during a telephone interview this afternoon. “But we are focusing on the next 50 years.”

Pressed to reveal a hint of what visitors to the Miami Boat Show can expect, Braver said the company will unveil an all-new model that will be completely surrounded by an all-new—and simply outrageous if history is anything to go by—dock exhibit. The new model will be complemented, of course, by other Cigarette sportboats and center consoles. Among those to pay particular attention to is a redesigned and reinvigorated version of one of the company’s most popular and once-groundbreaking center consoles.

As for the Cigarette-AMG model, given that the two companies tend to base their annual release off the latest and hottest AMG offering, the boat is likely to be inspired by the sexy new AMG GT 63 four-door coupe.

That was as much detail as Braver was willing to provide—but there will be more teaser information, likely in video form, coming early next month. And the Miami event is just the beginning of what will be a yearlong celebration for the company.

“We have a whole bunch of things coming to Miami and beyond that we can’t talk about yet,” he said. “It took Cigarette 50 years to get to this moment. We’re going to enjoy it. Just wait until you see what we have planned for the next 50 years.”
