Countdown to Sarasota: Meanwhile, Back In Douglas, Michigan

With the Super Boat International circus roaring into to Sarasota, Fla., today for the Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix, we couldn’t resist bringing you a sneak peek—courtesy of Douglas Marine/Skater national sales manager Tony Cutsuries—of one big-name raceboat that won’t be there. You’re looking at the new WHM Motorsports 40-foot Skater catamaran in the rigging process for its new 750-hp Sterling Performance engines (read the story), which if all goes to plan will ready for the Superboat-class competition at the next SBI race in Michigan City, Ind.

Here’s a look at the new WHM Motorsports. coming to an offshore racecourse in the near future.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you should count out veteran offshore racers Billy Mauff and Jay Muller in the existing WHM Skater catamaran—the 40-footer is the defending 2013 world champion in SBI’s Superboat class in Sarasota Sunday. That the 38-foot Stihl Skater has prevailed in the first two races of the 2014 is certainly impressive and makes the Stihl cockpit duo of driver/ower J.R. Noble and throttleman Mark Kowalski the favorites, but it’s also incentive for Mauff and Muller.

We look forward to seeing this new low-profile WHM Motorsports stunner on the racecourse later this season. In the meantime, it’s looking really, really fast just sitting in the Skater factory.
