CR Racing Rolls; Shadow Pirate, Miss GEICO and More Earn Victories in Exciting Lake Race

In what turned out to be another fun-filled long weekend on Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks, the 2018 Lake Race on Saturday provided plenty of action-packed racing between the 30-plus teams competing in the Offshore Powerboat Association-sanctioned event.

The results included below are official as provided by OPA officials on Sunday evening.

In the class featuring the fastest two boats entered—Miss GEICO and Wake Effects—the Extreme/Unlimited victory went to Miss GEICO after a back-and-forth battle.

With six boats in the competitive Super Stock class, last year’s winning team—Shadow Pirate/Nick’s Creative Marine—took an early lead and held it throughout the race, which was cut short after five laps when the CR Racing team flipped at the far end of the course. Fortunately teammates Casey Boaz Rob Unnerstall were uninjured in the accident but because of the delays following the crash, the teams officially finished in the positions they were in when the race was stopped. Shadow Pirate, Nick Scafidi’s Doug Wright cat, was followed by two other Doug Wrights—FJ Propeller in second and Team Allen Lawn Care and Landscaping in third.

In the five-team Super Cat class race, which was the first race of the newly formed Supercat Racing 750 Owners Group, Performance Boat Center/Jimmy John’s exacted revenge on the WHM Motorsports team that came from New York to Performance Boat Center/Jimmy John’s hometown race last year and won. This year, Performance Boat Center/Jimmy John’s Myrick Coil and John Tomlinson edged out WHM Motorsports‘ Billy Mauff and Jay Muller following a two-heat battle that saw each team win one race. In the end, the Performance Boat Center/Jimmy John’s team finished with an overall better time to take the top spot on the podium.
