DCB Boasting Heavy Representation At GLOC Shootout

Of the 26 high-performance powerboats currently entered in this weekend’s in GLOC Performance Boat Challenge Shootout in Grove, Okla., eight are catamarans from DCB Performance Boats in El Cajon, Calif. Notable entries include Lickity Split, a well-known DCB M35 model owned by J.P. O’Donoghue from Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and local favorite Cat’s Ass, a 35-footer owned by Oklahoma’s Carlton Bass. Fellow Oklahoman Chase Chappell also will be representing the brand in his 29-foot DCB beauty.

The builder also has one 41-foot and two 28-foot cats slated to compete in the top-speed contest.

“The GLOC organizers really lay down the red carpet for us,” said Jeff Johnston of DCB. “They’re welcoming and accommodating to all of our customers, who come in from all over the country. They’re grateful to have our guys there.”

Still another couple of Oklahoma-based DCB owners, Shawn and Stacy Gibson of Broken Bow, are hitting the event in a big way. Not only did they bring their 2016 M35 cat powered by Mercury Racing 1550/1350 dual calibration engines to the event, the brought their color-matched support vehicles.

The Gibsons and their supporters travel in style.

With three cats currently signed up to compete, Eliminator is the second best-represented brand, followed by Skater Powerboats with two entries. Of note to Skater fans from the Lake of the Ozarks area in Central Missouri, Travis Reed will compete in his 36-footer dubbed Reed Skater.

But the undeniable boat to beat this weekend is American Ethanol, a four-engine 9,000-hp 51-foot Mystic Powerboats catamaran that claimed the GLOC Shootout Top Gun honor last year with a 206-mph run on the one-mile course. With the course shortened to three-quarters-of-a-mile this year, American Ethanol throttleman/Mystic Powerboats founder and owner John Cosker said he’s hoping to reach 200 mph this weekend.

“Who knows?” said Cosker. “With the shorter course, it’s going to by fast.”
