DCB Delivers First Open-Bow M31 Widebody Catamaran

A first for DCB Performance Boats, the El Cajon, Calif., custom high-performance powerboat company delivered an open-bow walk-through M31 Widebody catamaran to Ryan Seitz of Valencia, Calif. The 31-footer is powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines and M8 drives with 1.4:1 gear ratios and 37”-pitch propellers. The conservative setup was by design, according to DCB’s Tony Chiaramonte, who ran the boat to 127 mph in testing yesterday.

“Ryan has other boats, but he wanted a deck boat, make that a school bus, with pulling power,” he said. “He cares about low- and mid-range acceleration. He has a family he boats with so he’s not about big speed with this boat. He just wants a deck boat with a lot pulling power. It’s the ultimate family performance boat.

“We even made this cool little hinged divider for closing off the open bow when he wants to,” he added. “This project was more than a year in the making and, like all of our builds, it’s highly detailed.”

Those details include a complete Alcantara interior from bow to stern with a matching carpet kit featuring shaved diamonds in the fabric. The interior is color-matched to the boat’s Phase III gelcoat scheme with exposed carbon-fiber in the graphics.

Built without a rubrail using the Vacuum Infused Resin (VIR) process, the six-seat 31-footer is balsa-cored. Carbon fiber and Kevlar were included in the lamination schedule.

In addition to a pair of Mercury Marine VesselView 9 monitors, the helm station is outfitted with the C-Zone system and an eight-inch Garmin GPS unit, a six-person intercom system with VHF boat-to-boat communication capability (called the “DCB Channel”) and a rearview backup camera. Additional cockpit features include an Isotta Carlotta steering wheel, DCB’s Interior Rigid LED lighting package (mood lighting, courtesy lighting, LED cupholders) and exterior and underwater LED lighting.

In keeping with its family use orientation, the customer ordered the boat with a Bimini top and a billet foot shower with a separate spray handle, as well as SeaDek covering the surface between the engine hatches, the steps into the cockpit and front bow entryway. To haul the boat, Adrenaline Trailers delivered a triple-axle stunner with custom 20-inch FUEL rims, black stainless-steel fenders, a triangular drive guard, an undercarriage LED lighting package and more.
