DCB Excited To Start Working With New M37R Widebody Molds

Roughly four months after announcing its plans to build a new outboard engine-powered 37-foot catamaran—it’s first true-tunnel cat—DCB Performance Boats is getting the hull mold delivered next week.

DCB plans to unveil its first M37R Widebody offering this spring.

According to DCB president Jeff Johnston, everyone at the El Cajon, Calif., custom high-performance boat builder is excited to get to work on the first M37R Widebody, which is going to be powered by a pair of Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines.

The new offering is 37 feet 6 inches long with a running surface of 36 feet 2 inches and a 10-foot 6-inch beam. The cat features a 65-inch tunnel without DCB’s customary center pod design. The six-seat M37R features a four-person rear bench and twin bucket seats for the driver and co-pilot that are separated by a console for the throttles and shifters.

Johnston said the M37R deck design was derived from DCB’s flagship M44 Widebody model, specifically for a couple of key features, including the three-step bustle for ease of boarding and the dedicated walkway around the side of the windshield for ease of getting to the front deck. He added that the deck design was spearheaded by Franco Gianni of SFG Yacht Design with input from the team at DCB and that the bottom design was a collaboration of an engineering team with decades of knowledge and experience.

“The bottom mold has been completed and is expected to arrive on Monday,” Johnston said. “The deck mold and other miscellaneous parts are still being wrapped up and we expect them to arrive by the end of February. The first five hulls have been sold and we’re taking deposits on the next slots.

“The first hull is slated to debut at the Desert Storm Poker Run in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., in April,” he continued. “This deadline will be tight, but it is still our goal.”
