DCB M35 Cat Finds Sweet Home In Alabama

A little more than a year ago ago this month, Stephen and Kelly Marino of Auburn, Ala., took delivery of a DCB Performance Boats M28 sport catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 400R outboard engines. But the 28-footer, dubbed “Twin Ladies” for their twin four-year-old daughters Zoey and Samantha, was by design a stepping-stone for the new DCM M35 catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 1100 engines that arrived at their home two days ago.

The Marinos found their dream boat in their new 35-foot sport catamaran shown here during testing on Lake Elsinore in Southern California (click image to enlarge).

“In our hearts, we really wanted an M35 but basically went with the 28 to get comfortable,” said Marino. “We were hesitant at first, but once we got the 28 we knew this was the boat company for us. Jeff Johnston and Tony Chiaramonte at DCB took us under their wings and catered to everything we wanted. To me, there is no other place to buy a boat. No matter what they made, I would buy it.”

The half-capped, vacuum-infused 35-footer was built carbon fiber stiffeners and balsa coring and color-matched to its custom-built, galvanized Adrenaline triple-axle trailer with FUEL Krank wheels and LED lighting. The El Cajon, Calif., custom boat company’s Carlos Lafarga and company finished the boat’s interior with a combination of Alcantara—the primary material used—and Marine Ultra Leather. The upholstery work was accented with a custom CNC stitch pattern.

As for features in its six-person cockpit, the Marino’s M35 is positively loaded. Electronics include a pair of Simrad NSS9 Evo3 monitors flanking a Garmin 7612 in center of the carbon fiber dash and a Garmin VIRB camera recording system secured a to CNC-machined strut mount. The boat’s RacerX intercom headset communication system for all passenger includes an isolated “DCB Channel” on VHF for boat-to-boat communication, and its Phase III stereo system boasts JL Audio coaxial speakers and subwoofers—with Focal amplifiers—and a Fusion head unit with remote control.

The owners also opted for DCB’s Rigid LED lighting package, which includes interior lights, mood lights, tunnel lights and LED cupholders, as well as SeaDek flooring for the cockpit sole.

“When we got the boat on Monday night and uncovered it, we were silent—my wife and I didn’t know what to say to each to each other,” said Marino. “We were blown away with how perfect and beautiful the boat is. It was surreal. On Tuesday, we ran it for the first time. From the way it handled to the way it accelerated, it was perfect.”

The Marinos have big plans for their M35 for the rest of season. They’ll start by campaigning it in the Florida Powerboat Club Emerald Coast Poker Run Aug. 15-18. From there, they’ll take it to Super Cat Fest at the Camden On The Lake Resort Aug. 23-25 in Missouri. They’ll finish the season at the DCB Regatta Sept. 21-22 in Arizona.

“The sky is the limit with those guys at DCB,” said Marino. “What you can imagine, they will build. If you can dream it, they will build it.”
