The smallest of Dave’s Custom Boats “Widebody” catamarans, the M29 has also turned out to be among the El Cajon, Calif., custom boat catamaran and V-bottom builder’s most popular offerings. To date, DCB has built five M29s and a sixth model is “in the mold,” according to company representative Tony Chiaramonte.

Most recently, the builder finished a 29-footer with twin Mercury Racing 565 engines with one-year warranties, SportMaster “Shorty” drives and Mercury’s ITS system. Depending on setup and propeller selection, the boat will run in the 120-mph range.

The fifth M29 catamaran from DCB, the boat is expected to debut this weekend on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky.

DCB built the cat, which lists for $342,000 on a trailer and is equipped with the latest Mercury Vessel View 7 system and GPS, for Dave Hargrove of Northcoast Performance Marine in North Canton, Ohio. At present, the boat is on its way to Kentucky’s Lake Cumberland, where Hargrove has a vacation home.

“We custom-built it for Dave and it came out beautifully,” Chiaramonte said. “He’s done such a great job for us, and he’s going to run it on Lake Cumberland over the Memorial Day Weekend, where it will make its public debut.

“We built three M29s with 565s, one with twin outboards, one with a single 1350 and one coming with a singe 700,” he added. “It’s proven to be a nice boat with either a single engine or twins.”

Currently in lamination, M29 No. 6 is headed for a buyer in South Africa.
