DCB Set to Deliver New M41 Widebody with Mercury Racing 1350s

For longtime DCB Performance Boats customers Mark and Jennifer Schouten, this weekend is guaranteed to be one they’ll never forget. Set to take delivery of their new M41 Widebody catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines and M8 drives in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., the couple from Scottsdale, Ariz., can’t wait to get some seat time in the new 41-foot catamaran.

Yesterday the crew at DCB dipped the red, black and gray M41 Widebody—the company’s fourth 41-footer—into San Diego Bay for a quick shakedown cruise before taking it back to the shop to wrap a few things up. The boat’s new Extreme Custom Trailers tilt trailer is expected to arrive Friday and DCB’s Tony Chiaramonte is planning to haul the boat to Lake Havasu that day. According to Chiaramonte, he took the boat up to 150 mph and everything did what it was supposed to do.

He said he timed the quick test because he expected a few extra eyeballs on the boat since there were thousands of people in town for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Petco Park in downtown San Diego.

The 41-footer, which features DCB’s precise carbon-fiber and carbon-Kevlar layup, is expected to top out at 175 mph.

“I’ve absolutely loved every one of my DCBs,” said Schouten, who has owned three DCB catamarans—an F29, an F32 and a M35 Widebody with twin Mercury 1100s. “I made the decision to get the M41 at the Barrett Jackson auction earlier this year and I can’t wait to get to drive it and put it to good use this summer.”

Schouten said his M35 was a great boat for Lake Powell, the Colorado River-fed lake on the Arizona and Utah border where he keeps his boats, but he’s looking forward to seeing how the M41 handles the lake. He’s also planning to take the boat to several events this year, including the Performance Marine Hot Dogs/Hot Boats Day—an early August customer appreciation run on Canada’s Shuswap Lake in British Columbia—the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri in late August and the Lake Powell Challenge in mid-September.

“I’ve seen the boat twice, once when the lamination process was complete back at the end of April and then I saw it Fourth of July weekend to go over some of the final details,” Schouten said. “I’m so excited about this boat. DCB has gone above and beyond with this build. I really can’t say enough about those guys—from the customer service to the quality to the reliability, DCB is as good as it gets. We’ve established some amazing friendships with the team at DCB and with the family of DCB owners we’ve met over the years.”
