Deep Impact Owners Treated To Enjoyable Day In Key West

Thanks to an offer from the team behind Deep Impact Custom Boats and Blackwater Boats to join its owners lunch run on Saturday in Key West, Fla., the newest Deep Impact 399 Open demo model powered by quad Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines was my office for the day.

Yeah, go ahead, roll your eyes just like many people do when they hear I’m going to Key West for a week for “work.” Still, work is work, so when the “fun days” are presented, I jumped at the opportunity. And I’m glad I did.

Not only did I get to take a pleasurable ride with Deep Impact owner Mark Fischer—and his lovely wife Eileen—I connected with a few owners of boats I’ve written about in the past and met several other passionate Deep Impact owners. Overall, it was a great outing that started with an organized multi-boat photo shoot coordinated with the Florida Powerboat Club media crew and wrapped up with a superb luncheon hosted by Yellowfin Bar and Grill at the Oceans Edge Resort & Marina.

Speedonthewater.com’s ride for the day, this brand new 399 powered by quad Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines was one of the boats the company displayed at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show last week in South Florida.

Along with the demo model captained by Fischer, who led the fleet through Key West Harbor and out to the Florida Powerboat Club raft-up near Boca Grande Key, four other quad-engine-powered 39-foot Deep Impact models took part in the run as well as a new all-white 43 SportFish Tournament Edition Blackwater model that was on display at the recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in South Florida.

“We’re having a lot of fun with the new boat,” said Florida’s Rob Rauch, who took delivery of his gorgeous orange, gray and black 399 Cabin with quad Verado 400R engines earlier this week. “We’re still trying to get the feel for it since I owned a 36-foot cabin model prior to this.”

Another owner who had a great time on Saturday was Louisiana’s Jason Parker, who had a full crew with him in his silver, green and black 399 Cabin also powered by Verado 400R engines. Simon Williams and his girlfriend, Dee Babcock, who came down to the Keys for both the FPC Key West Poker Run and the Super Boat International Offshore World Championships, said they had a great time running their all-white 399 Open powered by quad Mercury Verado 350 engines.

One other Deep Impact owner, Michigan’s Dave Postil, who has the 399 that was painted by The Art Of Design, didn’t bring his boat but joined his friends in one of the two all-white 39-footers that took part.

Quicksanz, a DCB Performance Boats M29 cat that father-and-son Mike and Mike Sanz purchased earlier this year, also showed up for the run to lunch. The former Deep Impact owners have been friends with the Fischers for many years and were more than welcome to be a part of the fun.

Following lunch at Oceans Edge, many of the groups headed back out to enjoy the rest of the afternoon—at least what was left of it.
