Desert Storm Organizer Hospitalized

Currently in the hospital and awaiting surgery tomorrow morning to resolve a gastrointestinal issue, Desert Storm organizer Jim Nichols said the activities for the opening day of event, which started this morning in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., went off without a hitch. Nichols credited his staff, volunteers and sponsors with making sure that all of today’s happenings including powerboat rides for kids from the New Horizons Community Center and the “Welcome Party” at Oregon Custom Marine went smoothly despite his absence.

“All of the events are going on as planned with our staff stepping up to take on the extra workload,” said Nichols, who is expecting to be released from the hospital either Thursday night or Friday morning.

Despite that he will miss Desert Storm’s annual Street Party from noon to 9 p.m. tomorrow, Nichols said the popular outdoor go-fast boat show, Friday’s poker run, Saturday’s top-speed shootout, as well as all of the other planned activities will go on as scheduled.
