Desert Storm Poker Run Planning to Expand in 2015

For the 15th year in a row, the largest performance boating event in the western United States will boil the waters of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., from April 22-26. To help kick off next year’s boating season, LakeRacer LLC‘s Jim Nichols announced today that the 2015 Desert Storm Poker Run is expanding with support from Jim Russell of Lake Havasu-based DSM Events.

Although it won’t feature many of the boats since they’ll be in the water, next year’s Desert Storm Poker Run will feature an expanded street party with a two-day beach party at the London Bridge Park on Friday and Saturday.

Nichols said the partnership will facilitate continued growth of the prestigious event by enabling him to emphasize the planning and expansion of the activities that have made it the crown jewel of the West Coast for many years.

Once again the 2015 event will launch with charity boat rides and an evening welcome party and charity auction on Wednesday. Thursday is the all-encompassing Street Party, which is arguably the best of its kind in the country. And Friday is the day of the poker run. Rather than have a vendor village at the Nautical Inn Beach Resort as usual, the event is going to enriched with a two-day beach party open to the public.

Basically the beach party will extend the street party as vendors and displays can move to the London Bridge Park for both Friday and Saturday, which is the day of the top-speed shootout. A unique banquet will follow the shootout with awards and prizes being presented at the continuing beach party.

Nichols expects some of the coolest performance boats in the country to be in town next year. He also expects the expanded three-day street party to be a hit, especially with the logistical expertise and local connections Russell brings to the table.

Over the past 25 years, Russell’s company has produced more than 100 motorsports events across the Southwest, including the International Jet Sports Boating Association World Finals. Factoring in Nichols’ 15 years of experience organizing events from Missouri to Arizona and everywhere in between, the two find the merging of their operations and capabilities very exciting for the high-energy event.
