Double R Completes 2018 Nor-Tech Delivery No. 11 In Key West

For Peter and Raymond Roberts, the brothers who own the Double R Performance Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats dealership in Ontario, Canada, the annual journey to Key West, Fla., for the Super Boat International Offshore World Championships isn’t optional. It’s a business function, albeit an enjoyable one. And with the delivery of a Nor-Tech 340 Sport CC to Severn Lake, Ontario-based clients Paul Kinkley and his wife, Carol, during last week’s jaunt to Key West, they moved one step closer to their goal of delivering 12 Nor-Tech center consoles this year.

The Kinkleys 34-foot center console is the eleventh Nor-Tech delivery of the year for Double R Performance.

The Kinkleys received their new 34-footer, which is powered by triple Mercury Marine Verado 350 outboard engines and is a much-faster, 79- to 80-mph replacement for their 35-mph Boston Whaler 305 center console, at the Nor-Tech facility in North Fort Myers, Fla., last Wednesday. The following day, they headed to Key West with a 10-vessel fleet led by fellow Canadian and well-known performance-boating enthusiast Bob Barnhart, who has a winter home on San Marco Island.

“It was a good, fun run down,” said Paul Kinkley. “I’ve never done it before. Now, after running back up the other side last Saturday, we’ve done the run to Key West on both sides of the state.

“I love the boat,” he continued. “The captains’ seats are very comfortable and the Club Seat in the back is going to be fantastic.”

Kinkley originally met with Peter Roberts earlier this year at the Double R facility to discuss purchasing another brand of center console. After weighing the pros and cons, he opted for the Nor-Tech.

“When we did the math, it made more sense,” said Kinkley, who also owns a 35-foot Fountain Powerboats Lightning sportboat he recently repowered with Mercury Racing 540 engines. “And I got a much better boat.”

For his summer go-fast thrills, Kinkley plans to enjoy the Fountain 35-footer, which tops out at approximately 95 mph. He plans to use his 34-foot Nor-Tech for boating in warmer-weather locales.

Though he’s not sure he’ll pull it off, Roberts said he’s still shooting for delivery No. 12—a Nor-Tech 390 CC—this year.

“That was a milestone for us in 2018, averaging one new Nor-Tech delivery a month,” he said. “I’m still hoping we can do it. We have a month-and-a-half left.”
