Downtime? We Don’t Need No Stinking Downtime!

Between the Super Boat International Offshore World Championships in Key West, Fla., in early November and the Florida Powerboat Club‘s Miami Boat Show Poker Run in mid-February, the list of events to attend in the performance boating world used to be mighty short. In fact, there used to be something affectionately known as “downtime.”

Those days are gone.

With 2015 just six days old, we’ve already seen two events—in Florida of course—that have attracted more than 100 boats between them. Held on New Year’s Day, the Joey Gratton Memorial Fun in Sarasota and the Fort Myers Offshore organization New Year’s Day Fun to Marco Island pulled in solid fleets. And in two weeks, the Florida Powerboat Club will host its annual Winter Poker Run—a land, air and sea event—to Marathon.

In short, an ambitious performance-boat owner in the Sunshine State could attend two on-water events this month.
