Erickson Marine Delivers Nor-Tech 450—And Sound Advice For Fellow Dealers

Earlier this week, Erickson Marine of Sarasota, Fla., delivered a beautiful Nor-Tech 450 Sport Center Console to a client who lives in Clearwater. The 45-footer is powered by four Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines and was ordered as an inventory boat by the longtime Nor-Tech dealer.

“We sold it to a customer who previously owned a Nor-Tech 390,” said Chris Erickson, who is the son of industry legend Bill Erickson—the dealership’s founder—and the company’s vice president of sales. “It is totally loaded with options including an air-conditioned helm station, a custom paint scheme and a Club Sport rear bench with coolers and live wells underneath the cushions and a Seakeeper system.

“Nor-Tech put it in the water for us in Fort Myers (Fla.) and my dad, his wife, my wife, Kimberly, and I ran it from there to Sarasota,” he continued. “From there, it went to Clearwater.”

Despite the ongoing novel coronavirus crisis, it turned out to be a good week for the dealership. Not only did Erickson take an order for another Nor-Tech 450, he has been “getting hammered” with sales leads.

“A lot of people are home all day right now, and though we used to get most of our online leads and inquiries at night now we’re getting a lot during the day,” he said. “And in the ‘downtime’ we have been able to update our website and take the time to make sure all of our new and pre-owned inventory listings are accurate and up to date. That’s really important. With the way boats fly in and out of here it can be hard to keep up with. Some boats get sold before they’re even listed. Now we have time to update everything, and I think it’s really helping us and our clients a lot.

“People are looking at boats online because it’s one of the only things they can do right now,” he added. “And they have time.”

Erickson said that the since the COVID-19 pandemic began walk-in traffic has increased. In addition to the Nor-Tech 450 delivery this week, he sold a pre-owned Nor-Tech 340 and a 39-foot Contender center console this week.

“Walk-in traffic is busy—it’s actually increased since the COVID-19 outbreak,” he said. “But we don’t have crowds of people coming in so we can stay open—and we’re not mandated to close here in Sarasota. Still, we are being smart and taking social distancing guidelines seriously.”
