Farnsworth Adds Low Altitude to Stable

Win Farnsworth has confirmed that he has purchased Low Altitude, a canopied 50-foot, turbine-powered Mystic Powerboats catamaran formerly owned by Tom Borisch, last week. The Denver-based performance boat owner, who owns the well-known 41-foot DCB Performance Boats catamaran called Silver Lining with his wife, Melissa, said he plans to keep both vessels.

“It’s an unusual boat, that’s for sure—it’s not one you use for short runs, stopping here and going there,” Farnsworth said. “I just love the Mystic brand.”

Powered by twin 1,800-hp T-53 turbine engines, Low Altitude began its life as JBS Racing. A spectacular but infrequent competitor on the Super Boat International offshore racing circuit, the cat became a pleasure boat in the hands of Borisch, who renamed—and repainted—it Low Altitude. Farnsworth said he doesn’t plan to change the boat’s name or power package.

While Farnsworth is participating in the Miami Boat Show Poker Run (read the story) next month in Silver Lining, which is powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines, Low Altitude will be getting an interior makeover to become more “amenity friendly”—that’s the plan at least. In the meantime, Farnsworth said he’s looking forward to getting Silver Lining back on the water in the Florida Keys.

Asked why he purchased the 50-foot Mystic cat when he already owned a stunning 41-foot DCB, Farnsworth laughed. “I just had to have it,” he said.
