FB Marine Group’s Sweers Racing In Two Classes And Poker-Running In Key West

After taking a year off from competing in the annual Super Boat International Offshore World Championships in Key West, Fla., veteran racer and FB Marine Group co-owner Randy Sweers is returning to compete in the 2018 event, which is set for Nov. 4-11. What’s more, he’ll also take part in the Florida Powerboat Club’s Key West Poker Run.

Sweers plans on racing in the Superboat and Superboat Stock classes in Key West. In Superboat, he’ll throttle his MGI Digital Technology/Konica Minolta-backed MTI catamaran with driver Glen Hibbard. (Sweers and Hibbard did not compete in the SBI National Championships in Clearwater, Fla., earlier this month.) While Sweers and Hibbard won’t compete on Wednesday and Friday in the Superboat class, they will run in Sunday’s contest.

“We only have one set of engines and our sponsors we’ll be there Sunday,” said Sweers. “I’d like to race all three days, but if we break on Wednesday or Friday we don’t have replacement power for Sunday.”

Sharing the cockpit with driver Bryan Marquard, Sweers said he also plans to throttle the 32-foot Doug Wright FB Marine Group/Lumberton Offroad-sponsored catamaran in all three races during the Key West Worlds.

After Wednesday’s race, Sweers will fly back to Fort Lauderdale in advance of the Florida Powerboat Club’s Thursday morning departure to Key West.

“We’re doing to do the poker run Thursday in a quad-outboard 48-foot Fountain with friends from Los Angeles,” he said.
