Female Duo to Run Wozencraft Skater at Lake of the Ozarks Shootout

In an effort to present performance boating to the masses, Devin Wozencraft, the owner of Wozencraft Insurance in Tustin, Calif., announced that he is going to have well-known female performance boat enthusiasts Yvonne Aleman and Tristan Collins-Garvin run his outboard-powered 30-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran in the upcoming Lake of the Ozarks Shootout (Aug. 27-28) in Central Missouri.

Tristan then reached out to Yvonne to see if she’d run the boat with her. I’m so excited to have these two well-respected ladies driving our boat for the event. And yes, the boat will be fully covered while operating down the course.”

Collins-Garvin, who grew up at Lake of the Ozarks, said she’s excited about the opportunity to run a boat in the Shootout for the second time.

“Devin wanted to know if I’d run his boat and I agreed because I had planned to run our new Skater but we haven’t finished rigging it yet, and since I had so much fun running in the Shootout last time I didn’t want to miss another year,” said Collins-Garvin, who ran 80 mph at the 2014 Shootout in her husband, Tyson Garvin’s Skater 399 V, which was powered by a pair of 480-hp Cummins diesel engines connected with Arneson ASD8 surface drives. “He suggested asking Yvonne if she’d want to run with me so I called her to see if she’d be interested. It sounded like something fun and different to do. And what better boat to run than a 30-foot Skater that is driver friendly and bulletproof?”

According to Collins-Garvin, who will celebrate her 29th birthday on Saturday of the Shootout, she will throttle the boat while Aleman handles the driving and navigation duties.

“Tyson is going to help get the boat ready for us so we can get the fastest speed with the safest setup possible,” Collins-Garvin said. “Yvonne and I are planning to get together ahead of time and do some practice runs in the boat before we take it out there for at least one pass along the Shootout course. I’m excited to run with Yvonne because we can remind people that there are women out there who can handle a boat like this. I know Devin also wants to show people that Wozencraft Insurance is supportive when it comes to participating in boating events like poker runs, shootouts and more.”

Also hoping to remind people that the Shootout isn’t just for the fastest boats in the world and that owners with boats of all sizes and speeds can have a great time participating, Collins-Garvin added that she’d like to see more people enter the event just for the fun and experience of it.

“From the first time I witnessed Tristan running in the Shootout a couple of years ago, I thought I’d love to try that one day,” said Aleman, who lives in Florida and loves traveling around the country with her significant other, Greg Harris, to attend performance boat events. “Tristan is one of my best friends and to see her running down the course blew my mind. I was so impressed.”

When asked if she was nervous about competing in the event, Aleman immediately responded “not at all.”

“I have a lot of faith in Tristan and the fact that she has faith in me makes me more comfortable about doing the Shootout,” Aleman said. “I’m confident we’ll be able to work as a team and run the boat safely. I got to see Devin’s boat run at Skaterfest (in Michigan in early August) and his boat performed extremely well.”

Both Aleman and Collins-Garvin, who said they are grateful to Wozencraft for allowing them to run the Skater at the 28th annual Shootout, can’t wait to get in the boat together and show that you don’t have to be a man to compete in the top-speed event.
