First Open-Cockpit 50’ Mystic Cat to Debut at Sunny Isles Event
Powered by twin 1,800-hp turbine engines from Turbine Marine Inc., the first open-cockpit 50-foot-long Mystic Powerboats catamaran will make its debut at the Fourth Annual Sunny Isles (Fla.) Beach Offshore Powerboat Challenge Weekend June 17-19. All previous Mystic 50’ cats have been built with enclosed canopies and used primarily as offshore race boats.
According to Mystic principal John Cosker, who just returned from Malta, where he was on-hand to support the Mystic-built SilverHook V-bottom that competes in the Ocean Grand Prix organization’s Evo Class, the 50-footer likely will participate in the Bimini Offshore Challenge on Friday, as well as the poker run on Saturday.
“From there it will go to the Texas Outlaw Challenge and then on to Oklahoma, where it will live,” said Cosker. “It will do the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout and then, later in the year, the Key West Poker Run. The boat is basically doing a promotional tour for Mystic.”
To help prepare himself for operating the exotic 50-footer Paul Iser, the owner of the catamaran, recently took a Tres Martin Performance Boat School course.
“A lot of people have been waiting to see this boat on the water,” said Cosker. “It was sold directly to the owner by Mystic, but Bruce Bullock (of Bullock Marine, a Mystic dealer for a little more than a year) has two or three buyers who are looking at it.”
