First Outboard-Powered Baja Outlaw Sportboat To Debut Today At Fort Lauderdale Show

Later today at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Baja Marine, Inc., will unveil the first model in what the Washington, N.C., boat builder is calling its “Baja Outlaw Outboard Series,” which eventually will include offerings from 23 to 35 feet long. Powered by a pair of 300-hp Mercury Marine Verado outboard engines with hydraulic power steering, the first model in the line—the 26 Outlaw Outboard—reportedly can reach 70 mph.

This 26-footer is the first model in Baja Marine’s Outlaw Outboard Series.

“We have been seeing a lot of customer demand for outboard-powered versions of Baja’s popular Outlaw high-performance series,” said Johnny Walker, the chief executive officer of Baja Marine, in a press release from the company. “With Mercury’s powerful and reliable Verado outboards on the market, we felt that now was the time.”

By converting the stern drive 26 Outlaw to an outboard setup, Baja transformed the boat’s engine compartment to a high-volume storage space with a wakeboard rack and a box for Coast Guard-required equipment. The 26 Outboard also features a cuddy cabin for shelter and additional storage.

Going with outboards for power enabled Baja to use the 26-footer’s engine compartment for storage.

For the Fort Lauderdale event, the builder dressed the 26-footer with its optional Sport Arch and X2 package that includes special hull graphics, a color-matched sunpad and carbon fiber dash, powder-coated rails, a Plexiglas Venturi windshield and LED interior and underwater lighting.

Base suggested retail price for the Baja 26 Outlaw Outboard with the 300-hp Verado outboards is $147,995. As equipped with the X2 package and other options, the boat has a total suggested retail price of $166,001.
