First Stephen Miles Design-Painted Nor-Tech Headed To Michigan

Scheduled to leave the bustling Stephen Miles Design paint shop in Owensboro, Ky., this morning, a new Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats 450 Sport Center Console should reach its summer home in Charlevoix, Mich., sometime late this evening or early tomorrow morning. The 45-footer, which is powered by quad Mercury Racing 400R outboard engines, is the first Nor-Tech painted by the famed high-performance powerboat graphics shop.

Headed to Charlevoix, Mich., today, this Stephen Miles Design-painted Nor-Tech 450 sport will be part of the Boyne Thunder Poker Run fleet next month (click image to enlarge).

“It turned out really nice,” said Miles. “Henrik (Margård) at Nor-Tech was really impressed with the pictures I sent to him.”

The Michigan-bound 45-footer was ordered by David Sinacola, who has a summer home in Charlevoix, through Nor-Tech dealer Midwest Boating Center in Osage Beach, Mo. Sinacola said he worked closely with Terry Sobo at Nor-Tech in North Fort Myers, Fla., and visited the facility for test drives and the ordering process that followed.

“Terry was spectacular with helping me out,” he said. “He also recommended Stephen Miles, another spectacular guy.

“The boat is gorgeous—I can’t wait till it gets here,” he continued. “We should have it on the water by July 1.”

The 2019 Boyne Thunder Poker Run will be the first for Sinacola, who previously owned a 31-foot Formula SS. “I had taken out the Formula on Lake Michigan, of course, but I just didn’t feel comfortable running it with all those big poker-run boats,” he said. “Now, with the Nor-Tech, I do.”

Miles and his crew have already begun painting their second Nor-Tech 450, which was ordered through American Custom Marine in Kimball, Mich. A third graphics design for another Nor-Tech is in the works, said Miles, who added that he takes a much different approach to creating paintjobs for center consoles than he does for traditional custom sportboats.

“With center consoles, you need to go for ‘elegance’ first and ‘sport’ second,” he said. “I’d say it’s about 85 percent elegance to 15 percent sport, which is the opposite for exotic high-performance sportboats such as the ones we paint for Outerlimits. Those are outrageous boats so they need outrageous paintjobs.”
