According to Mike D’Anniballe of Sterling Performance in Milford, Mich., the company’s first 1,700-hp turbocharged engine was delivered to Douglas Marine/Skater last week. The second Sterling 1700 engine will be shipped to the Douglas, Mich., boat builder next week.

The much-awaited engines will be installed in a Skater 388 catamaran. While D’Anniballe said he hoped to have the engines completed earlier this month, he admitted that they’d taken longer than he anticipated.

“They always do,” he said. “All in all, the owner (of the Skater 388) has been very, very good. He’s been very patient.”

In the final dynamometer tests, the engines reportedly produced 1,730 hp at their maximum speed of 7,000 rpm and 1,510 foot-pounds of torque at 5,400-5,500 rpm.
