Florida Powerboat Club Catching Up On Video Content

Taken at first blush, last month was a particularly rough one for Stu Jones. Not only did the Florida Powerboat Club president have to scrub two poker runs in response to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, though he is planning to reschedule each of those events, just eight days ago his 2018 Ford F-250 Lariat truck was stolen from in front of his home. The truck is still missing.

But with no events on his roster this month and no videos and images to edit from last month’s cancelled poker runs, Jones and the FPC crew currently are hard at work producing videos for the Pompano Beach, Fla., outfit’s late-season 2019 happenings.

“We’re plugging away here on videos—it’s like the FPC on steroids,” said Jones, then laughed. “If there is any positive to this current mess it’s that we are getting caught up on our video content. We have more to do from our Emerald Coast Poker Run. The next round is Key West. I think that will be 10 episodes and we’ll be getting out three a week.

“Our YouTube channel traffic numbers are the best they’ve ever been and the dozens and dozens of comments we’ve been getting back are fantastic,” he continued. “People are desperate for some escape being locked inside their homes. They’re so happy and grateful to see new stuff coming out.”

In dire need of a reset in light of his March disappointments, Jones and his family headed out in Project 1080, their renovated Cigarette Racing Team 38 Top Gun, last Sunday. And the brief getaway was just the recharge for this week’s work, he said.

“It made me feel alive for day,” he said. “We were all alone in the ocean except for a few cruise ships at anchor and some law enforcement boats.”

Even the theft of his prized Ford truck wasn’t enough to keep down Stu Jones.
