Formula Unveils New 330 Crossover Bowrider

Roughly two years ago, Formula Boats introduced a new series to its wide-ranging lineup with the bold 350 Crossover Bowrider (CBR). Now the Decatur, Ind., company is pleased to unveil its new 330 CBR, the second model designed to deliver a best-of-both-worlds experience to both day boaters and overnighters.

At 33 feet in length with a 10-foot, 3-inch beam, the new 330 CB—a unique boat from Formula’s exclusive designer John Adams that infuses transformative style into a crowd-pleasing platform—expands the fun into the bow and aft areas while maintaining the ever-important plush cockpit as well as a cabin with full standup headroom.

Featuring a 21-degree deep-V hull, the 33-footer offers a smooth, stable ride and can be matched with a variety of powerful twin MerCruiser or Volvo Penta engine packages to deliver the swift, smooth performance boaters crave. The first 330 CBR from the factory is powered by a pair MerCruiser 8.2 MAG ECT engines with Bravo Three X drives, while hull No. 2, which is currently in production, will include MerCruiser 350 MAG ECT engines with Bravo Three X drives. Depending on power and options, pricing for the 12,250-pound boat ranges from $290,000 to $340,000 and above (although the company offers a discounted Super Savings package when pricing the model on its website).

In a shakedown session, a Formula test crew had the boat running 55 mph at 5,000 rpm and found a fuel-efficient cruising speed of 36 mph at 3,500 rpm. At that speed the boat was consuming 23 gallons per hour for 1.2 miles per gallon. With 151 gallons of fuel capacity that’s a cruising range of 162 miles.

The helm of the 330 CBR features all-new dual-position command and companion seating with options to sit, stand or rest on the upright seat. Individual backrests easily adjust fore and aft for watersport lookouts or all-around conversation. The chrome shifters/throttles and waterproof rocker switches are within easy reach. Livorsi Marine gauges provide confident command at the liquid-black aluminum dash with standard Garmin 547 GPS color chartplotter for fine-tuned control. A richly upholstered dash eyebrow and leather-wrapped, polished stainless steering wheel give a refined look and feel to the entire dash area constructed of sturdy fiberglass composite.

The cockpit features a layout that maximizes space, comfort and style. The roomy portside lounge and U-shape lounge aft take full advantage of the clever helm seat convertibility to expand seating options, while the convenient table adapts to fit various entertaining activities and lowers for sun lounge extension.

Storage is abundant at every turn on the 330 CBR, from dedicated lockers for tables and cushions to easy access under seats and floor storage for all your boating gear. The molded cockpit wetbar features an integrated sink and picnicware bin accessible through two accordion Corian countertops plus an Igloo cooler or optional stainless pull-out fridge. Stunning blue LED lighting adds a dramatic flair when entertaining.

Forward, the deep bow section is a seamless transition from the cockpit with a flush floor all the way to the bow. Seating is plentiful, yet convertible to a spacious sun lounge with a double-wide lounge seat to starboard, two dual-height tables and wraparound seating with filler cushions.

The rear-facing, extra-wide aft sun lounge with convertible backrests and storage below also adds to the sunbathing space and overlooks the optional extended swim platform. Blue/white LED lighting is standard on the swim platform as in the cockpit, and is cleverly recessed at the transom.

Entering the cabin through the centerline door at the helm, solid wood steps lead to woodgrain-finish flooring and a full six feet of headroom. The L-shape Ultraleather lounge features a dual-position backrest that can be converted to a queen-size sleeping area. The cabin is perfect for overnight trips or taking a break from the sun, with room to stretch out and relax.
