Fort Myers Offshore Spring Fun Run: Short, Sweet and Idyllic

With 25 powerboats in the fleet, the Fort Myers Offshore Spring Fun last Saturday wasn’t the non-profit club’s largest or longest run of the 2015 season. But when it came to conditions—smooth water and cloudless skies—it may end up being the organization’s most spectacular. FMO Board member Meghan Brousseau handled most of the planning and logistics for the 35-mile run from Fort Myers to the Waterside Grill in Gasparilla Marina for lunch.

“It the club’s first visit to that locale and we were treated to a great buffet,” said Bob Barnhart, the one of the club’s founders. “About 10 boats ran ‘offshore’ in the Gulf of Mexico and the rest ran in the Intra Coastal Waterway, which is a bit shorter and more scenic.”

Taking a break from his role as company co-owner of Nor-Tech Powerboats in Cape Coral, Fla., Trond Schou flew his helicopter as the event’s photo platform for FMO “staff photographer” Jay Nichols.

“There are just two events left in this FMO season—with both being membership favorites,” said Barnhart. “On April 4, we have our annual cook out and beach party at Cayo Costa Beach. Our season finale is our weekend run to the Hyatt in Sarasota, April 17 to 19, which has also become an annual event.”
