Fourth Erie Poker Run On Tap This Weekend

Despite rain in the forecast for the coming weekend, Erie Poker Run organizer Anthony Scioli remains optimistic that he’ll have a good turnout for the fourth annual Pennsylvania-based June 22-23 event on Lake Erie. The founder of Elite Poker Runs, LLC, Scioli has targeted a 30-boat fleet for the run for the past three years and expects to reach that number this year.

While the past three outings were held under blue skies, rough water has consistently dogged the event.

“I wouldn’t even mind if it’s overcast if we get calm water,” Scioli said, then chuckled. “We’ve been ‘blessed’ with beautiful water conditions every year so far.”

At present, 19 owners have registered their boats for the run, which has title sponsorship backing from American Custom Marine in Kimball, Mich.

“The 19 boats registered doesn’t count the sponsor boats,” said Scioli. “We a have a nice mix of people who have done the run before, including a healthy contingent of Outerlimits owns like Vinnie Diorio and Dave Weschler, and a bunch of guys who have never done any of my events before.

“I think this is right about where we were last year with registrations at this time,” he added. “There’s always the usual group of guys who register at the last minute.”

Regardless of turnout and water conditions, Scioli said he has not decided whether he’ll continue producing the event after this year.

“I’m not going to make that call till the end of the year—I’ll evaluate everything then,” he said. “I could end up producing one run a year and rotating which event that is every year. You know, the most fun I’ve ever had on a poker run was at my Mentor (Ohio) event last year, when we had something like 23 boats but only 18 or 19 actually ran.”
