Friday Fun Run Changes Are A Hit In Jacksonville

This week’s Jacksonville River Rally And Poker Run in Northern Florida got off to a great start earlier today when dozens of participants in the event headed east on the St. Johns River through the Intracoastal Waterway and over to Ponte Vedra for lunch.

“We had a great lunch run today,” said Greg Harris, the primary organizer alongside his longtime girlfriend, Yvonne Aleman, who runs his colorful 32-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran Mad Props with him. “We had about 20 boats join us for the run to Palm Valley Outdoors Bar & Grill in Ponte Verda Beach and everyone had a great time. It was better than Boaters’ Skip Day (the normal Friday festivity before the event was moved from June to May this year) by far. Then we wrapped up the day with the traditional chicken wing party in Jacksonville.”

With a focus on raising money for Camp Amigo, a charitable weeklong summer camp series in Central and Northern Florida for children recovering from the physical and emotional scars of severe burn injuries, the Jacksonville River Rally And Poker Run has several fun stops in store for Saturday, including lunch at Crystal Cove Riverfront Resort in Palatka.

“Today’s run was really fun,” said Georgia’s John O’Neill, who drove his new MTI 340X sport catamaran with twin Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines in the event. “MTI did a great job with our new boat. I’m very pleased with how it turned out and how great the boat runs.”
