Fun Run To Boca Grande Key Pulls In 200-Plus Boats

Still going strong right now, today’s Florida Powerboat Club “Fun Run” to Boca Grande Key off Key West, Fla., attracted more than 200 boats—most of them of the go-fast kind—and more than 1,000 people. Participants who arrived early beached their boats nose-in, while later arrivals formed long multi-boat raft-offs.

Covering the event with video and still images were Scott Price and Brad Schoenwald of Powerboatnation.com. While I haven’t been able to reach them—mobile coverage was blissfully nonexistent on Boca Grande Key—since I returned to Key West with my hosts Vinnie Foglia and Scott and Kelly Sjogren of Pier 57 Marine in Foglia’s new 44-foot Marine Technology, Inc., catamaran I suspect they will have their coverage on the site later today.

Earning the unofficial “longest distance traveled to be there” award were Gary and Rosemary Colledge and Karl Koster, who brought their 40- and 38-foot  Skater catamarans all the way from Discovery Bay, Calif., for FPC’s annual Key West Poker Run and today’s Fun Run.

Until then, here are a couple of quick pictures from an amazing day on the water—and on the beach.
