Gallery Of The Week: Cigarette Tirranna Takes Miami—Stills And Video

Though speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden captured a few solid images of the new Cigarette Racing Team 59 Tirranna during the Florida Powerboat Club’s Miami Boat Show Poker Run last month, he didn’t have much time to devote it given all the other boats he had to shoot from a bridge in Key Largo. Of course, it was only a matter of time before the Opa-locka, Fla., custom performance-boat builder set up its own photo shoot of the six-outboard-engine-powered 59-footer, which is part sport yacht and part super console—but mostly defies description. And that happened last week in the waters off Miami.

For company owner and chief executive officer Skip Braver, the 59 Tirranna moves the company into the future without losing a connection to its past.

“We have not forgotten about customers like Gary Seeds, who we are currently building a 42X for,” said Braver. “We want to build products for today’s customers as well as the customers of the future, but without abandoning our roots. We think Tirranna accomplishes that.

“Technology has created a tremendous effect on the way we do things,” he continued. “When we first bought Cigarette in 2002, people were using strings and blocks of wood to design new models, and maybe some boat companies still are. But we made a significant investment in design and manufacturing technology. We’re a small company but we put an amazing amount of care into it. With Tirranna, we wanted to create something that redefined the marketplace—we wanted to create a technological showcase—as well as something that checks all the boxes for our current and future customers.”

Braver was quick to credit everyone on the team, inside and outside of Cigarette, who helped make Tirranna a reality.

“This was a team effort with everyone at Cigarette, as well as our partners at Mercury Racing and Garmin,” he said. “You know, we even worked with a super yacht designer on Tirranna. And he was excited to work with Cigarette. We are a globally recognized brand, and we’re proud of that.”
