Gallery Of The Week: DCB M33R No. 2 Out Of The Molds

The second M33R Widebody catamaran from DCB Performance Boats is out of the molds and ready for interior installation and rigging. Like the first 33-footer, hull No. 2 will be powered for twin Mercury Racing 400R outboard engines. The cat is headed for two-time DCB catamaran owners who have a vacation home in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., where the boat will be located most of the year. dcbm33no2 09

The second DCB Performance Boats M33R catamaran is going to repeat DCB customers.

“This is their third DCB,” said Jeff Johnston of the El Cajon, Calif.-based custom high-performance boat company. “The first two—an M31 with Mercury Racing 700s and another M31 with Mercury Racing 1100s—were pre-owned. They traded in the M31 with 1100s last fall and placed the order to build this brand new M33R with Mercury Verado 400s.”

While the couple enjoyed their stern-drive powered M31 catamarans, Johnson said, they opted to simplify things by ordering the outboard-powered 33-footer.

“Their reasons for changing directions are pretty much the same as those for everyone going into outboard-powered sport cats these days,” said Johnston. “Lower maintenance, greater reliability, three-year factory engine warranty, lower insurance rates and the ability to still blast to 115 mph—it’s pretty easy to understand why they made this move. We’re glad we had something to offer them and grateful they chose DCB.”
